Prosperity Gospel

 

OPINION:

I want to write something about my experience with the Prosperity Gospel. One of the types of churches I went to as a kid was a prosperity gospel one. We had this young youth pastor that took over the whole church. Looking back- they were like the barrio-style Kardashians. Literal Trash dressed up all nice.

The leadership asked the churchgoers to fork up 10% of their PAYCHECK- but they were always begging for additional money, and manipulating people into believing that if they just give money to the church AKA GOD lol-  Said God will then in turn make you a millionaire. 🫩.   Oh and faith without works is nothing- so they taught the church-goers (me too- back then) to fake it til’ they make it and encouraged people to get into mortgage and auto debt (that they could not afford) to show their faith. They taught the church-goers that if you were POOR- that means something is wrong with your relationship with God because GOD wants all of his children to enjoy prosperity. They taught people that Jesus was a wealthy person. Reason: Jesus gave financial support to the disciples. (Jesus had asked them to leave their jobs to follow him. How could he do that knowing these men had families?? 🫩 )

The church-goers were POOR people from a colonized country- that live in a slum/barrio. Talk about gaslighting. 

It was disgusting, and yes, I got therapy. Fuck those people exploiting poor people to pocket it. The “Pastor” was driving a Mercedes Benz - his only job was being a Pastor for a non-profit 🤭 - meanwhile the church-goers were from a literal mud slum. Oh and the free labor they got from impressionable teens was one of the books.  Fuck them. Amen.
